1． inner competitiveness criteria

(a)Financial status: One of the key elements in relations between firm and supplier is long-

term commitment. Financial status of the supplier can be a good indicator to provide this key element.

(b)Management approach: If supplier has a strategic management and applies new methods in management, the firm will easily construct good relations with the supplier.

(c)Technical ability: Technical abilities represent that supplier ensures future improvements according to changing in customer‘s needs.

(d)Quality systems and process: To provide a high-quality product, supplier should have a quality system including quality assurance, quality control procedures, quality control charts, documentation, continuously quality improvement, etc.

(e)Geographical location: The location of the supplier‘s firm is important because of shorter delivery time, lower transportation cost, and faster technical support.

(f)Production facility and capacity: Supplier‘s production facilities should meet customer‘s specific requirements. When the customer develops new product or improves current product according to market demand the supplier‘s facilities should be available to produce it. Also the supplier can increase its capacity to supply more orders from the customer. (g)Working with Kanban approach: According to Kanban approach, the supplier firm keeps the stock of the product being purchased. By this way, the firm gets rid of the stock cost. Also according to this approach, the firm only pays for the amount of product it uses.

2． Product performance criteria

Product performance criteria can be used to examine important characteristics of the product being purchased. It depends on the type of the product being considered. The sub-criteria of the product performance criteria are explained below:

(a)Product price: Product price is a high percentage of in total cost of the product. Therefore purchasing department wants to purchase the product with minimum price to decrease the total cost.

(b)Handling: Handling includes of the transportation, storage, receiving, and packaging operations. First three operations of them are important in view of stock out condition and rapid delivery time. Also packaging provides not to damage the product during transportation.

3． Product Quality:

The quality of the product being purchased from supplier provides the quality of the
