Underground observation: The top and bottom of Seam 3 are rather soft with the middle part being fairly hard. Cracks and fissures are well developed in the 1.2 m range of the top coal with clear cleavage and joints. Parting is observed in the section 1.5 m above the floor. This parting is underlain by soft coal of 10 -20 mm thickness. The parting is fairly continuous, while the soft coal layer has discontinuity. The roof of Seam 3 is chiefly composed of mudstone, sandy mudstone with interbedded sandstone. The floor is mainly composed of mudstone, fine-grained sandstone and partly siltstone.
The testing results are as follows:
The volume weight of bottom coal of Seam 3 is 1.36 -1.415 g/cm3, averaging 1.393 g/cm3, with uniaxial compressive strength of 15.75 - 16.49 MPa, averaging 16.17 MPa, tensile strength of 0.87 -1.1 MPa, averaging 1.0 MPa, modulus of elasticity of 248 - 923 MPa, averaging 487 MPa. The volume weigth of the top coal
of Seam 3 is 1.502 g/cm3, with uniaxial compressive strength of 15.42 MPa, tensile strength of 1.77 MPa and modulus of elasticity of 650 MPa.
The false roof of Seam 3 is composed of discontinuous carbonaceous mudstone, with 0.3-0.5 m thickness, 1.974 g/cm3 of volume weight and 10.41 MPa uniaxial compressive strength.
The immediate roof of 12 - 15 m thickness mainly consists of shale, sandy shale and partly interbedded sandstone. For the shale, volume weight: 2.57 g/cm3, uniaxial compressive strength: 19.48-29.1 MPa. averaging 19.85 MPa, tensile strength: 1.78-1.91, averaging 1.83 MPa, modulus of elasticity: 2805-3518 MPa, averaging 3080 MPa. For the sandy shale: volume weight: 2.56 g/cm3, uniaxial compressive strength: 32.22-46.89 MPa, averaging 35.65 MPa, tensile strength:
2.37 MPa, modulus of elasticity: 5175-6725 MPa, averaging 5950 MPa. For the sandstone, the volume weight: 2.64 g/cm3, uniaxial compressive strength: 3

MPa, tensile strength: 3.8 MPa and modulus of elasticity: 6565 MPa.
The main roof of Seam 3 is composed of grayish coarse-grained sandstone, with volume weight of 2.645 g/cm3, uniaxial compressive strength of 51.5 MPa, tensile strength of 8.44 MPa and modulus of elasticity of 9688 MPa.
The floor of Seam 3 is composed of sandy stone, with volume weight of 2.565 g/cm3, uniaxial compressive strength of 41.45 MPa, tensile strength of 6.24 MPa and modulus of elasticity of 1609 MPa.
The immediate roof of Seam 3 is carbonaceously-cemented, with swell factor of 0.363 when wetted. This roof tends to be very unstable when in contact of water.
Testing results of ground bearing pressure of bottom coal of Seam 3
The permissible bearing pressure in the bottom coal 0.7 m above the floor: 25.36 MPa.
The permissible bearing pressure of the bottom coal 1 m above the floor:
14.68-21.36MPa, 18.02 MPa as average.
The permissible bearing pressures of the bottom coal 1.5 m above the floor: 12.01-13.35 MPa, 12.68 MPa as average.
The permissible bearing pressure of the bottom coal 2 m above the floor: 18.69 MPa.
Physical properties of coal in Seam 3
According to the findings in the Detailed Geological Report of Panzhuang Mine No. 2, the following parameters are presented:
Breakage resistance: 86.78-88.96%, classified as high strength coal.
The coal is classified as thermally stable coal, with TS being
79.4-95.75,averaging 80.90%.
HGI: 36-34
Washability: The coal in Tianhugoudi Mine in the eastern Sihe Block is difficult to wash, whereas, the coal in Yongan and Yonghong Mines in the west Sihe Block is easy to wash, while in the northern part such as Chengzhuang Mine, the coal is classified as medium to easy washable.
Methane of Seam 3
According to the analysis and study, the content of methane in coal in the main workable coal seams ranges from 3.70 to 34.07 cubic m/t. The average methane content in Seam 3 is 12.12 cubic m/t. The high methane areas are mainly located in the west block and the west part of Sihe east block.

some of the values and dato provided here may varydue to the limited area of sampling.
Power Supply
The main power source is led from 220 KV substation at Qinchi, while the stand-by power source is led from 110 KV substation at Chengzhuang. One 110 KV substation is installed in the southern end of the residential area of Sihe Mine to step down to 6 KV and 10 KV to be supplied to the east block and west block. Underground power adopts neutral point groundless system. The power to the continuous miner sections and longwall face in the east block will be provided by the underground power distribution center, which will step down 6 KV to 3300 V and 1140 V for the mining equipment.
Underground Water Supply
The mine water after treatment will be supplied as make-up water for production purpose. The water will be piped to the underground for fire fighting, cooling and water spray. The flow and the pressure will satisfy general requirement. In the event of special water supply requirement, water pumps will be installed as necessary.
