4.Conclusion

Proverbs, as an important part of culture, is an objective reflection of the language, English and Chinese languages reflect the two different cultures. Thus the difference of usage of animal words in the analogy is significant, but with their own culture. The cultural information loaded through animal proverbs can be seen clearly. They not only response to the similarities and differences of the specific manifestations both in English and Chinese, but also reflect unique ethnic culture and cultural background. Therefore, more communication and attention should be paid to the transmission of culture. Only by continuously developing and strengthening cultural competence, our level of understanding will be improved. We can combine cultural competence and language ability, and we can convey accurate information of language and culture, carry out effective cross-cultural communication.

The above discussion of study and research and the relationship between them is by no means comprehensive but it can serve our purpose to improve ELT(English Language Teaching) practice as a point of department. The idea of “promoting dynamic interplay between study and research” is one the author has cherished for a long time and let the in-service teachers of English share when they come to refresh themselves in their further education programmes. The purpose of this paper is to demystify the lofty term “research” and help our following teachers of English to integrate their study and teaching with research.
