[6]2. The content of the proverb include a wide range of subjects, especially in the largest number of the animal proverbs. Because the animals are closely related to human life, they play an irreplaceable role in people’s daily life, such as clothing, food, shelter and transportation, as well as producing. Many animals get along with people day and night, making people very familiar with their habits of life, qualities and characters. With time flying, people begin to associate the habits, the quality of animals with some of the phenomena in human society, though some sayings seem to be not scientific and reasonable. Proverbs appear in the oral form very commonly at first. They have a high frequency of usage and spread continuously with modified processing, sharing each other, long circulating, gradually become stereotypes called proverb. This is why they have grown to the mainstream. Therefore, the same as other civil verbal creativity, not only each proverb is hard to affirm author, but also difficult to identify on which day of the year which is that it is birth. In the development of “Proverbs teams”, not only the total number increasing, but also its members are often erratic. Some quietly disappeared in history. Some have been changed, a lot of things have taken place [1]2.

2.1 Brief introduction of English proverbs on animals

English proverbs are the crystallization of human wisdom, they are the colourful language of the form which are full of wealth, as well as the literature, poetry, they are all the essence of language, having a vivid, obvious characters to the philosophy of language in general[2]12. To some extent, English proverbs reflect cultural characters of the English nation. English proverbs are of long standing. They are passed on from generation to generation in the readable oral form, as well as from the Bible, from Shakespeare’s works and from Aesop’s Fables, there are also many foreign proverbs.

It tells us that those who cannot endure anything would lose his temper likes a mad dog. 2.2 Brief introduction of Chinese proverbs on animals Chinese proverbs are rich and varied, lively and meaningful, reflecting the whole nations’ pursuing the important and unique cultural values. They form in the production, class struggle and vivid scientific experiment. Popular and simple, concise and brilliant, especially the oral form adopted to make proverbs become an indispensable part the mainstream culture of the nation. Chinese proverbs are one of the most ancient cultures which are created by the masses of people. They can be traced back to the initial stage of human development. They are also the youngest of the culture in practice, because they exist in people’s daily lives and most of the people usually use them. All in all, proverbs are the basis of the entire socio-cultural and have strong vitality, they are the result of choosing from the civil culture, transformation and refining.

Proverbs are the heritage of cultural traditions from generation to generation. They have contributed to the development of the human cultural diversity. With most of people’s efforts, proverbs will be spring flowers, beautiful and blooming.

3. Comparisons between English and Chinese proverbs on

animals

English and Chinese proverbs on animal are one form of the languages which are based on people’s accumulated experience and lessons from their daily lives, studying and working. They are created through summarizing and generalizing. They are concise, brilliant figure, rich rhythm, all of these are characterized by the variety of rhetoric.

English and Chinese languages are all famous for their rich proverbs, but they belong to two different cultural systems of east and west. Geographical and cultural differences make English and Chinese, the two nations of peoples to familiarity with a variety of animals be different, together with English and Chinese cultures having their own unique historical characters, value systems, myths and legends, etc., making English and Chinese proverbs distinctive national characters.
