6-1-1 Heavy metals - Cadmium and cadmium compoundsAll metals, alloys, inorganic compounds, metal-organic compounds, inorganic salts, and other substances Targets The time to ban on receiving the parts and materials

- Packaging materials. (refer to 6-2 Addition rules for packaging materials ) - The stabilizers, pigments, or dyes used for plastics (including rubber) materials (e.g. labels, cabinets, phonograph records, vinyl ties, the keys of remote controllers, the outer plastic resins of electrical parts, and the insulators of electrical wiring). - Paints, inks. - Surface treatment (e.g. electroplating, electroless plating, etc.) and coating. - Photographic films. - Fluorescent lamps (small-sized ones, straight-tube ones). - The Ni-Cd batteries that are received as new parts. - All nickel and Ni-Cd batteries must not be used in or after January 2007. Level 1 Banned immediately - Cadmium and cadmium compounds except those used for the intended application of Exemption. Typical examples are given below: - Switches, relays, breakers, DC motors, and other electrical contact points. - Fuse elements of temperature fuses. - Glass, and the pigments and dyes of glass paints (paints for glass and the pigments and dyes used for glass). - Solder (whose cadmium concentration is more than 20 ppm) - CdS-photocells and the phosphors contained in fluorescent display devices. - Resistor elements (glass frit). - Parts composed of metals containing zinc (e.g. brass, hot dip galvanizing) whose cadmium concentration is more than 75 ppm. - Cadmium and cadmium compounds in electrical contacts and Level 3 TBD cadmium plating of electrical contacts. - Cadmium in optical glass, filter glass. Allowable concentration: 1. Less than 5 ppm for plastics, rubbers, paints and inks. 2. Less than 75 ppm for other homogeneous materials if not be regulated in this specification.

Standards for measurement: 1). Pre-conditioning * 1. A wet decomposition method under the existence of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, or hydrogen-peroxide water (e.g. BS EN 1122:2001) 2. A pressurized acid decomposition method done in a sealed container (EPA 3052:1996) * If precipitates (insoluble matter) are produced, dissolve them totally by taking some means (e.g. alkali dissolution). 2).
