Hot Zone Hot Zone is The Key technology in the single crystal growth process. A well designed HZ provides the foundation for a good process, which controls crystal intrinsic property A well designed HZ also provided energy efficiency, provides high yield, and longer HZ lifetime, all are major cost effects Generally HZ in China has been improved since 2000, thanks to our new design and some designs come with the used equipment. Hot Zone Material Insulation– Most insulation are soft felt while industry standard is RGF. – RGF in China is still in trial bases. Fundamental analysis has not been finished in terms of its thermal and mechanical properties.

Crucible The major problems with Chinese made crucibles are deformation, silicon leak, quartz flake off, etc, greatly reduces the ZD yield. With Momentive moving its quartz crucible facility to Wuxi, the quality of the crucible should improve quite bit. However, without coating, Momentive quartz may not be the best. The big guys such is yet to come. Chinese vendor still have some time but need to be quick to improve.

Summary Chinese solar grade mono-crystalline industry has grown along with the explosive growth of PV industry. Over 1500 furnaces has been installed. We estimate it will reach 4000 by 2009. With pressures from excess capacity, low cost casting material, and demands for high efficiency, competition will become tougher For healthy growth of mono-crystalline solar industry, we need to have improvements in equipments, process and raw materials.
