AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Manuscript Submissions

Authors should submit complete manuscripts (including figures) to the JCMM manuscript submission website ScholarOne Manuscripts (formerly known as Manuscript Central), at: /jcmm.

Please follow the instructions given at this site, noting that all information entered during the submission process related to the manuscript should also be included in, and be identical to, the final submitted version of the manuscript. The corresponding author must complete all the mandatory fields in the submission process, but preliminary data can be stored if additional information needs to be obtained - for example, the e-mail addresses of all the named authors (who will all be informed of the submission process). Should authors encounter difficulties they may contact the Wiley-Blackwell support desk in the USA (Tel.: +1 434 817 2040 ext. 167, E-mail: support@).

Submission of a manuscript will be held to imply that it contains original unpublished work (not simultaneously submitted, or already accepted for publication, or previously published elsewhere). Authors are encouraged to supply the names of potential referees, and/or of referees that they do not wish to review their paper.

Authors of Invited Reviews should supply the name of the Guest Editor who invited them to write.

PRE-SUBMISSION ENGLISH-LANGUAGE EDITING

Authors for whom English is a second language may choose to have their manuscript professionally edited before submission to improve the English. English-language editing will (a) improve grammar, spelling and punctuation, (b) improve clarity and resolve any ambiguity caused by poor phrasing, and (c) improve word choice and ensure that the tone of the language is appropriate for an academic journal. A list of independent suppliers of editing services can be found at /bauthor/english_language.asp. All services are paid for and arranged by the author, and use of one of these services does not guarantee acceptance or preference for publication.

COPYRIGHT INFORMATION

Submissions should be accompanied by a completed, scanned and uploaded Exclusive Licence Form. Authors of all manuscripts are required to license copyright in their paper to Wiley-Blackwell. Copyright licensing is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless copyright has been licensed.

OnlineOpen is available to authors of primary research articles who wish to make their article available to non-subscribers on publication, or whose funding agency requires grantees to archive the final version of their article. Prior to acceptance there is no requirement to inform an Editorial Office that you intend to publish your paper OnlineOpen if you do not wish to. All OnlineOpen articles are treated in the same way as any other article. They go through the journal's standard peer-review process and will be accepted or rejected based on their own merit.

Original Articles (research papers) - up to 15 printed pages.

Reviews - up to 10 printed pages.

Review Series - up to 10 printed pages and no more than 120 references.

Short Communications, Images in Cellular/Molecular Medicine, Editorial Forewords, Commentaries, Points of View, Letters to the Editor - up to 2 printed pages.

Medical Hypotheses, Retro-views of significant ideas and discoveries.

Ethical considerations

If the scientific project involves human subjects or experimental animals, authors must state in the manuscript that the protocol has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the institution within which the research work was undertaken. Experiments on live vertebrates or higher invertebrates must be demonstrated to be ethically acceptable and in accordance with institutional and national guidelines or regulations for the use and welfare of laboratory animals. If the manuscript reports medical research involving human subjects, authors must include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from all subjects, according to the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki. Any form of registration that may identify a patient must be excluded from the content of the paper. When clinical photographs of patients are submitted it is the responsibility of the authors to obtain, prior to submission, full informed consent by the patient for the use of the photographs.
