Abstr act: Chinacs property and casualty in surance compan ies ( P&C compan ies) have reported unsatisfactory prof2 itability over a long term. Under the modern enterpr ise system fram ework, susta in able profitab ility enhancem ent has become a realist ic issue to be consid ered by various insurers. Curren tly, the P&C market is facing w ith a structu ra l transformation wh ich may create a favorable externa l environm ent for enhancin g P&C in surersc profitability. The pa2 per analyzed the factors a ffect ing P&C in surersc susta in able profit2m aking capab ility, and arrived at the conclusion th at external environment had a sign ificant bearing on the insurercs profitab ility. The in surers cou ld im prove on th e ir profit2making capab ility and de liver sat isfactory resu lts to their investors by in tegrat ing their in ternal va lu e cha in s and cap italizing on the im provement of external in dustry restructuring.
