Researchers at Northwestern University in Illinois find that music training can help students become smarter. They also find that one year of music training doesn’t make a difference. Two years does.

They did a two-year study by providing free music lessons for some students from poor families at a high school. Let’s take a look at the result. Overall (总的来说), more than 50 % of the students did not graduate in the school. However, about 90% of the 44 students who took the free music lessons graduated and went to university.

Adelina Flores’ daughter is one of those 44 students. She said she wasn’t surprised by the result. Her daughter had already told her she was getting better at math after receiving the music training and that her reading skills had improved a lot. Adelina Flores added, “She’s grown to be more confident.”
