Preface

Software engineering is an important area for Swedish industry. Software already is a major part in many products. The amount of software included in common goods is growing rapidly. In many products, software already is the most important and critical part for market success, like for example cell-phones, cameras, and cars. Maintaining the position of a leading IT country requires the capability to effectively develop software of high quality on time and budget. Securing the Swedish industry’s future competitiveness therefore requires the application of current software engineering methods, languages and tools. To advance the state of the practice, research is necessary to develop, improve and validate software engineering methods, languages and tools and make the state-of-the-art applicable in industry.

SERPS, the Conference on Software Engineering Research and Practice in Sweden, is intended to be a meeting point for researchers and practitioners in the area of software engineering. SERPS makes it possible for researchers and practitioners in Sweden to present early results and receive knowledge of the state of the art of software engineering in Sweden.

SERPS solicits four types of submissions; research, papers, experience papers, industry papers, and thesis abstracts. All submissions are reviewed by a program committee. Research and experience papers should consider the practical application of the ideas advanced through case studies, experiments, or systematic comparisons with other approaches already in practice. Submissions from industry should provide independent views on a relevant topic. Practitioners with limited experience of writing conference papers are encouraged to collaborate with academia. Ph.D. students who are soon to present their licentiate or doctoral thesis or recently have presented a thesis are encouraged to submit a thesis abstract.
