William Butler YeatsStylistic Features of When You Are Old

William Butler Yeats William Butler Yeats (pronounced / je ts/; 13 June 1865 – 28 January 1939) was an Irish poet and dramatist, and one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature. In 1923 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for what theNobel Committee described as "inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation.

When You Are OldWhen you are old and gray and full of sleep And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep; How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true; But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face. And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled And paced upon the mountains overhead, And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

当你老了袁可嘉译 当你老了,头白了,睡意昏沉, 炉火旁打盹,请取下这部诗歌, 慢慢读,回想你过去眼神的柔和, 回想它们昔日浓重的阴影;

When you are old and gray and full of sleep And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true; But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face.And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled And paced upon the mountains overhead, And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

VocabularyWhen you are old and gray and full of sleep And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

3 rhetoricWhen you are old and gray and full of sleep And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
