Actions Speak Louder than Words

People celebrate Earth Day differently. In Picture 1, a man is trying to put up a banner with an eye-catching phrase “HAPPY EARTH DAY”. However, he can’t even find two trees to hang up his seemingly glorious sign as all the trees except one have been cut into stumps. Picture 2, in contrast, shows a man and a woman planting a small tree with heartfelt joy and satisfaction.

Our earth is suffering from widespread human exploitation, which confronts every individual on this planet. One the one hand, some people choose to make big yet hollow claims that we want to save the earth. On the other hand, others are taking small yet concrete steps to make the environment a better place for everyone. Who is making the real difference? It is not the people who talk the talk, but the people who walk the walk.

We all know the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Now, I want to say “an action is worth a million words!” It is so easy to criticize that we need to care more, appreciate more and understand each other more. Instead of complaining, why don’t we start by donating books to children in need, by saying more thank-you’s every day, and by stepping into other people’s shoes next time we disagree with them. Only when we match our words with actions can we make a difference in whatever we hope to accomplish.
