My First Experience of Making HandCake

It wasembarrassing for me to admit that as a twenty-years-old

grownup, I still knew nothing about cooking. So in this summer vocation, I tried to make some simple food to prove cooking isn’t that difficult.

Being a beginner, I chose the simplest handcake, which is also known as Shouzhuabing, one of the famous Taiwaness snacks.

However, the preparation work wasn’t as smooth as I had expected. Holding the kitchen knife, my right hand started shaking, and my heart was pounding in my chest. “What if I cut my finger, that’s not funny!” I thought with anxiety,“No, stop thinking,you can’t be so unlucky.”

Throwing all the worries out of my head and taking a deep breath, I lifted up the knife. Eyes gazing on the fingertips of my left hand which is fixing up the cucumber, I let my right hand fall. The moment the knife cut up the vegetable, I felt like the time had frozen. My heart stopped jumping, and the hair on my back neck stood up still. But the fact was that I

managed to cut up the cucumber. Happy and more encouraged, I wiped away the sweat on my forehand with the back of my hand. With extreme carefulness, I slowly finished cutting up the tomato and the ham.

Getting through the first challenge, I didn’t meet too much trouble when frying the flatbread. Since it had already been processed, I just put it on the heated pan. Quickly swollen up, it turned white to gold from the edge to the center. Rolling it over, I fried the back of the flatbread into

gold too. Nostrils flaring to take into the delicious smell, I felt

mouthwatering. Finally, I transferred the flatbread to a plate, and put all the sliced pieces on the top of it, scattering some meat floss, squeezingred ketchup. Bare-handed, I rolled the hand cake up and bite a mouthful of food. “Wow that’s quite delicious!” I couldn’t help giving myself a thump-up.

It was my first time to make food and the success meant a lot to me. Just as the saying goes, “In fact, nothing is difficult as long as you take the first step bravely.”
