A Conversation between Mr. Wordy and Mr. Terse

T:Don’t you think we should express ourselves in English better and us e words more economically?

W: Yes. It is an unrealistic illusion to separate such principles from language ; they should be united as one.

T:Well, you certainly can’t see the “unimportant significance” of them. If a thing’s significant it’s important, and if it’s important it’s significant. What’s the point of saying “ important significance”? It’s about the same as “important importance”.

W: If you could just stop interrupting me all the time I’d tell you about the meeting I’ve just been

T: Please do.

W: Well, the speaker just came to our country not long ago.

T: Naturally.

W: What do you mean naturally?

T: If he just came it was not long ago.

W: As I was just saying when I was so rudely interrupted: the speaker arrived here after a long journey of 5,000 miles.

T:He couldn’t very well have made a “short journey of 5,000 miles”, could he? Unless he was a spaceman.

W: The hall was packed full and the audience shouted slogans loudly.

T:It couldn’t be “packed empty”, could it? And they couldn’t “shout quietly”.

W: He said that the imperialists had been bullying his people arbitrarily (专横地).

T:You wouldn’t expect them “to bully with reason and restraint”.

W: But they have been openly exposed.

T:They could hardly be “exposed secretly”.

W: The people hate the imperialists very much.

T:You can’t “hate anyone slightly”.

W: And the peopl e’s resistance movement has powerful strength.

T:I never heard of “powerless strength”.

W: And the imperialists will share the same fate as all reactionaries.

T:They couldn’t “share a different fate”.

W:I suppose they couldn’t. I’m beginning to understa nd your idea about being economical in the use of words. I shall try to master it well.

Prezell Robinson Scholarship Program

While this scholarship is available only to students in the state of North Carolina, it is so incredibly helpful that many students choose to study in the state for the only purpose of receiving it. It is offered to college students who come from low-income families that are interested in pursuing a long term career in education at any level.

New York State Scholarship Program

Officials in the state of New York founded this program to award students who want to give back to their community through their ability to teach. The catch for this scholarship is that the students must be pursuing a teaching career in mathematics or science at the secondary level.

Also, because the program was designed to improve the education system in New York, the candidates must sign a service contract agreeing to work full time within the state for at least five years after graduation.

Coca-Cola Scholarships

You may have many opportunities for grants and scholarships through The Coca Cola Foundation. There is the Coca Cola Teaching Foundation that will provide free money for students pursuing an education in the teaching field. Students who maintain an outstanding scholastic record have chances to be awarded special scholarships.

Funds For Teachers

Not all scholarships or grants are for students entering or already in college. The Funds for Teachers scholarships are for graduates who are already working in the field, but want to improve their possibilities, skills and education in an effort to increase their ability to teach the students that cross their path more effectively.
