Installation and Upgrade LimitationsThe Server Core installation option can only be performed as a clean install. Previous versions of Windows Server cannot be upgraded to Server Core Windows Server 2008 full version cannot be converted to Server Core Server Core cannot be upgraded to the full version of Windows Server 2008 Server Core may only be upgraded to Server Core R2 when available.
