Compare the advantages and disadvantages of three of the following as media for communicating information. State which you consider to be the most effective.

With the technology development at a staggering speed, a variety of mass media are participating in public affairs and people’s daily life. In the face of a great multitude of choices, people are at a loss of deciding which media to turn to for obtaining information. From my perspective, television bears a lot of advantages over other forms of media including books, films and so forth, which makes it the most effective one in terms of the communicating of information.

In the first place, television provides the audience with a vivid description, including the moving pictures, the explanation of the announcers as well as the lines of words and sentences on the screen. The instructions are represented both in acoustic and visual way, thus activating the sensory system of the audience in the process of accepting information to a deeper extent. Despite the negative aspects it holds such as the fact that the instant pictures on the screen changed rapidly that people are in the charge of the rhythm of it, its advantages undoubtedly overshadow its disadvantages so as to offering an easy and effective access to get the demanded information to the public.

When it comes to book, in spite of its merits involving leaving people the opportunities to choose what to read and make marks where the information is helpful to meet people’s demands, it goes with some demerits which cannot be neglected. For instance, book presents written instructions, thus preventing a quantity of people from the information, involving the children without adequate ability of comprehension and mature cognitive power. That is to say, only those that are able to analyze the material and absorb the knowledge selectively can accept the information in a book effectively.

Finally, although film plays an important role in the field of communications, on no account can we credit it with the most effective media to convey information. Admittedly, it shares some advantages with television, but its disadvantages cannot be made up for. As an example, no one can doubt that the majority of films focus on stories, accordingly film always fails to contain and convey a large amount of information.

From what has been analyzed above, we may safely come to the point that compared with other kinds of media, television acts in a most effective way to achieve the spread of information among the public.

Happiness is considered very important in life.

Why is it difficult to define?

What factors are important in achieving happiness?

With the rapid rhythm of the modern life, an increasing number of people are suffering from fatigue, pressure and anxiety in catching up with the pace of work and study. People are beginning to challenge the principle saying ”Work comes first.” and they have come to realize the importance of happiness in life. Although receiving good education can equip us with knowledge and working may lead to a rich life, they cannot be compared with happiness, which can improve the living standard of people and cannot be exchanged by other forms of wealth.

However, it is hard to give a definition to happiness because of the fact that a variety of measures are held in the minds of different people. Taken as an example, a temporary loser looks on a sense of achievement as the source of happiness while that may lie in health in the case of a patient. As a result, different circumstances as well as people themselves give rise to various standards set to define happiness.

Admittedly, we have no choice but to accept that it’s difficult to form a widely-agreed definition on happiness, however, it does not mean that we cannot take the initiative to pursue it. From my point of view, the following factors are indispensable for the achievement of happiness. Firstly, we should hold an optimistic attitude towards our life and future. Action should be taken to strive for our goals, but do not consider failure as unacceptable. What we can do is to learn from the past and go ahead as we have never been hurt. What’s more, we should be generous, kind and warm to those around us, for the fact that only when we live in harmony with others can we experience a happy life. In addition, we should take up some hobbies we enjoy in our leisure time as a break from the busy study or work, and put another way, spare some time for ourselves can also bring about relaxation and happiness.

From the discussion above, we can safely draw a conclusion that since that happiness plays a significant role in the quality of our life, we should think twice what goals we should set and what attitudes we should hold in pursuit of it. Instead of being in the charge of the exterior surroundings, it’s ourselves that dominate whether we are happy or not.
