Passage1 To Clone or Not to Clone

克隆还是不克隆

更为严肃的伦理问题关系到克隆对于人意味着什么。有人会尝试克隆人吗？人们的好奇心是难以满足的，他们会挖掘大自然的每一个角落。有关人类的前沿知识是没有法律能阻止人们去发现它们的强烈欲望。好奇心与认知的欲望能战胜所有阻挡这种冒险探索的压力。 对克隆人的最严厉的反对集中在克隆会对克隆出来的人的发展造成什么样的影响。克隆出来的人会被认为只是 “克隆人”吗？克隆人会失去个性吗？会被剥夺任何可能发展他们自己的特性和人格的机会吗？克隆出来的迈克尔·乔丹、比尔·盖茨或比尔·克林顿和他们原型一模一样吗？

我们可以从我们中间的那些“克隆人” — 相同的双胞胎 —身上找到一些启示。他们是独特的个体吗？或者只是一面照射他们孪生同胞的镜子？我从未遇到过无法辨认的“完全一样”的双胞胎。他们有独特的个人特性或自我意识。他们和其他任何人一样有强烈的自我意识，从不将自己的“自我”与孪生同胞相混淆。我们可以自信地说，如果自然界能够复制一个特殊的脱氧核糖核酸或遗传密码，也不会对人格的独特性造成威胁。每个人依然保持着一种独特性，这种独特性培育着他们的人格与个性。

心理学家认可这种见解。即使是迈克尔·乔丹、比尔·盖茨或比尔·克林顿可以克隆他们自己，克隆出的这些人也会有很大差别。他们会有不同的生活经历，他们很可能会有不同的爱好和能力，他们肯定会有自己的个性和塑造未来的价值观。迈克尔的后代可能会喜欢音乐，比尔·盖茨的克隆身可能不会从事信息技术，比尔·克林顿的克隆人说不定会当医生，而不是做总统。
