Grasp the language points in the two passages.

Know the specific information about the two passages, after the second reading.

Know what preparations should make, before starting a new club. Discuss in groups about how to promote a new club to attract new member. Know what to write on the poster.

Know how to design a formal poster.

Realize what to say when presenting a poster.

Step 1 Lead in (5min)

You’ve been here for almost one month. Do you have any suggestions for our school to make it better?

Show a series of pictures on the screen about the school clubs in some western schools. Ask the students whether they would like to join a club or two. Step 2 First reading---language points (5min)

Ask the students to read the first passage word by word, and underline the new words that they don’t understand.

Step 3 Second reading (5min)

Ask the students to go through the two passages quickly to fill in the blanks. Remind them of the reading strategy---scanning, and let them focus on some key words.

Ask them which club they would join? This discussion would help them to understand what needs to be considered when they prepare to start a club. (like an extraordinary name, many interesting activities)

Step 4 Preparations for starting a club (5min)

Firstly, ask every 6 students to organize a group according to the seats. Secondly, remind students of the importance of a good name, interesting a

ctivities, etc to induce three basic points---name, activities, when&where, when they make preparations for a new club.

Thirdly, emphasize the spirit of group work. Everyone in a group is requir

ed to take an active part, and give some suggestions about club’s name, activities, etc. Only when the suggestions are approved of by at least three members could be adopted.

Step 5 promotion of your new club---group discussion (3 min)

Encourage students to discuss in a group about how to promote your new

club, and to put forward as many ways as possible.

Reemphasize each member should make his or her own contribution to the

group in the discussion.

Ask several students to talk about their groups’ ways of promotion, and co

mment on those ways.

Provide them with a simple, quick and cheap way to promote---putting up posters.

Step 6 Design a poster

What to write on the poster?

1. name

3. when&where

5. date

How to design a formal poster?

Tip 1: position of the above five points on the poster.

Tip 2: art work(handwriting, drawing)

Tip 3: powerful and concise language.

Step 7 Present your poster

Briefly explain how to present a poster

1. select one representative from your group

2. introduce the information written on the poster

3. answer other students’ questions after the introduction.

Step 8 Homework

1. review the language points learned in class

2. work in group to design posters, and prepare to present them tomorrow
