On July 21, a private Virginia firm that had already sent three super-rich men to the international space station for $20 million each announced it would offer an even rarer adventure: a stroll (漫步) outside the space station for an extra $15 million.

The plan still needs the approval of the other 15 partners in the international space station, but Anderson said, “Russian space officials are confident that they can get the OK.” “They’re going to be right outside the door of the ship for an hour and a half,” Anderson added. “Of course, they will have an astronaut with them.”

A spacewalking tourist is “probably unwise”, said one former astronaut, who almost died during a February 2002 fire aboard the Russian Mir space station. “If a spacewalking tourist does something wrong, he could endanger the astronaut accompanying him. And if the astronaut has a problem, the tourist would not be of much help,” said Jerry Linenger, another astronaut.

But others among the people who have spacewalked say it offers great excitement. “It was such a beautiful experience physically,” said an astronaut. “It brought tears to my eyes.”

At the outbreak of the Civil War, Clara organized a relief program for the soldiers, starting her lifelong career as a nurse and humanitarian (人道主义者).

During the Civil War, Clara devoted herself to solving the problem of providing soldiers with plenty of medical supplies and traveling with army ambulances.

At the end of the war in 1865, Clara established an information center which served war-torn families, and aided in locating missing soldiers, and identifying and marking thousands of graves. In 1868, she suffered a breakdown, and went totzerland to recover.

While intzerland she became aware of the International Red Cross that was established there in 1864. Knowing that the US would benefit greatly by having a Red Cross, Clara returned home and tried to establish the Red Cross in America. She reminded the public at large, as well as the politicians, that the Red Cross was not only functional during times of war, but was also invaluable in peacetime, providing relief for victims of droughts, floods, and other disasters. This seemed to get the attention of both the public and the politicians, and thus the American Red Cross was founded in 1881.

The American Red Cross was offered government funding, but Clara refused to live in fear of political control. Thus she relied on donations from private citizens. It was also the private sector that donated food, medical supplies, clothing, tools and various materials for recovery activities.

In 1904 she retired to her home in Glen Echo, Maryland, where she died on April 12, 1912. Clara Barton was truly a great American who dedicated her life to humanity.
