His journey into space took him 600,000 kilometers into orbit, around the earth 14 times, in just over 21 hours. It made him China‘s first astronaut and the 241st person in space. His friends and teachers from Suizhong County in north-eastern Liaoning Province have all said that he loved science and technology from a young age. He always talked of wanting to learn how to fly.
