Although the first passenger flights took place in the USA, the development of air travel in America was strangely slow; it was not until 1926 that there were any regular passenger services there. Luo Dongdong is one of the students in Class 7b. He joined our middle school at the beginning of the second term. By then we all knew each other well and we each had our own small group of friends. None of the students welcomed Luo Dongdong into any of the groups.

From that day I began talking to Luo Dongdong during the lunch breaks. I got to know him well. He is a very kind and thoughtful person. His family is quite hard up. His father lost his job two years ago and now earns a living cleaning shoes. His mother helps to make ends meet by working in a shirt factory.
