Smoking is harmful

When you are in public places, you will see many smokers. And most of them are young people and even middle school students. It is said that in China smokers cover abut 45 percent.

Why do so many people enjoy smoking? Some think that it is a pleasure, some believe that it can refresh themselves. In fact, smoking is a bad habit. It does great harm to our health, not only to the smoker himself, but also to others. For smokers, it is a great waste of money, and causes all kinds of diseases. Besides, many fires are caused by careless smokers.

Today, more and more people are beginning to realize the harm of smoking and decide to give it up. If you are not a smoker, don’t start.

Text 2

W : How often do you write your mother ? M : Twice a week.

Text 3

W : Is Tom back , Uncle Jim ?

M : No, not yet. Do you know why , Lucy ?

W : I’m afraid he broke the rule. That’s what Jack told me just now.

M : Hi, Jane. It’s nice to see you again. I heard that you went to the US during the vacation.

M : About 50 days . I went there on July 5th and came back on August 25th. M : How about the course ?

W : The course was very good. The teachers were nice. They taught us to listen, speak, read and write in English , but it was mostly speaking. One interesting thing I found was that the American classes are different from our classes here because they are very free. You can sit anywhere you like in the classroom. You can ask the teacher questions at any time during the class , and you are welcome to share your ideas with the class. I really liked this kind of class.

M : How interesting ! Maybe our teachers should try that.

M : No, he didn’t. He died early the next morning in the hospital.

Text 9

Beethoven , a famous musician in the world , was born in Germany in 1770. In his childhood Beethoven didn’t have a happy life. His father was a singer. When he was only four, his father began to make him practise hour after hour on different musical instruments.

Beethoven loved music , and he was able to go around giving concerts when he was only a boy of eleven. At the age of seventeen, he won high praise from Mozart, the great musician at that time. Beethoven was often poor and ill during his life . After one illness, he suddenly found himself deaf. At that time he was only thirty-one. It was a blow to him indeed, but he still went on working and writing music pieces.

To people’s surprise, some of his best pieces were written after he lost his hearing. In 1827 , leaving more than 300 pieces, the great musician died , but his name is still remembered to this day. < …… 此处隐藏:3783字,全部文档内容请下载后查看。喜欢就下载吧 ……
