Reading and vocabulary是本模块主要的精读材料。该部分介绍了中国古代三位思想家以及他们的学说。通过完成与课本内容和词汇有关的练习,学生可以熟悉课文内容和学会使用与课文内容有关的词汇。学生可以通过在文章当中学到的词汇和句子来描述一位中国历史上的伟大人物。培养学生速读获取大意,细读获取细节信息的能力。读后活动深化学生对文章的理解,有助于全面把握有效信息。

三维目标设计

Knowledge and skills

1.To help the students learn the following words and expression.

Words:order,principle,position,stress,resign,adviser,influential,love

Expression:be at war with

2.To help the students revise the following words and expressions.

Words:influence,government,found,treat,badly,behaviour

Expressions:be similar to,bring up,from state to state,co me from,become famous for 3.To help the students master the way of describing one great person of ancient China.

4.To help the students know the general idea and the structure of the passage by scanning and skimming.

Process and methods

1.To encourage the students to take an active part in the learning activities by giving them clear instructions on what to do while reading a new passage. In addition,correct possible mistakes they might make in a proper way by making necessary changes while repeating their sentences.

2.To encourage the students to cooperate with the others by working in pairs or in groups of four.

3.To make sure that the students pay attention to the important points by asking them to repeat some of the statements made by both the teacher and other students.

Emotion,attitude and value

1.To help the students enlarge the knowledge of great people and great inventions of ancient China.

2.To help the students raise the awareness of loving the great achievements in culture made by great people of ancient China.

3.To help the students appreciate the advantage of cooperative learning.

1.To help the students learn to read a passage in a proper way and improve their ability of skimming and scanning.

2.To help the students learn to organise their own sentences to describe one great person of ancient China.

1.To help the students describe one great person of ancient China.

2.To carry out accurate evaluation while dealing with the students’sentences they make to express their ideas in class.

教学过程

Step 1Pre-reading 【2 min. 】

Lead-in

Ask the students to look at some pictures of great people of ancient China. Then the teacher can say something like this:Do you know them?These are Confucius,Mencius and Mozi. Do you want to know more about them?OK,soon you will.

Step 2While-reading 【33 min. 】

Task 1Read Philosophers of Ancient China and match the words with the definitions.

1.First,ask the students to read the words in the box and repeat them after the teacher. Then ask the students the meanings of them.

2.Ask the students to read through the article quickly and silently. Give them the suggestion that they should focus on the general idea and not on the detailed meaning. Make sure they don’t read the text aloud.

3.Ask the students to do activity 1 inpidually. Then discuss their answers with their partners.
