8．But 考查逻辑连接词。根据空格前的句意：我过去常常想飞车的想法很荒谬。以及空格后的句意：今天早上当我遭遇交通拥堵是我的想法改变了。由此可知前后两句是转折的关系，故填But。

9．hiring 考查非谓语动词。句子结构完整，需要将hire变成非谓语动词的形式，to do不定式表将来，v.-ing形式表现在，而根据句意可知Uber是正在雇用一名美国航天局的工程师，故填hiring。

10．themselves 考查反身代词。根据句意：专家预测，会出现几种飞车的初期模型，“它们自己”不会飞，但在一到三年内在飞行员的驾驶下，就可以飞了，故填themselves。
