Graffiti also became a separate movement expressing the street culture of young people living in big cities. Graffiti art represented social and political rebellion(反抗). These artists could travel around areas of the city making creative paintings for everyone to see. Sometimes this street art created a dispute(争端) between artists and city officials. No girls allowed.

It’s not a sign posted outside a play room, but a possible new approach to education.

“Boys generally become physically and mentally mature later than girls. Boys are often outperformed by girls in schools and colleges. About 80 percent of the high school students who were rated as ‘poor students’ are male.” said Lu Qisheng, President of Shanghai No 8 High School, which is trying to change its senior high school division into a boys-only campus.

Wang Ronghua, Director of the Shanghai Education Development Foundation, has often expressed his concern over the poor performance of boys in schools and colleges, which he has stated will have a negative influence on the country’s improvement in science and technology.

But not all experts approve of the idea.

“It’s very necessary for educators to make some changes and adjustments in terms of education and methods toward boys, but there is no need for students to enter a boys-only school,” said Wen Jun, head of the Institute of Sociology of Shanghai-based East China Normal University.

“Children have to learn how to deal with different people and things during their growth, in which school plays an important role. Separation from the opposite sex will not be a good choice for children’s growth,” Wen said.

A teacher who also spoke against the boys-only school said: If I had a boy, I wouldn’t send him to an all-boys school. The poor performance of boys in their studies can’t be contributed to the co-ed(男女同校的) system. It’s due to the academic evaluation system. In schools, a lot of the courses require students to memorize and recite, such as English vocabulary and grammar, which are not an advantage for boys.”

64. The underlined word “outperformed” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ______. A. overcome B. disturbed C. attracted D. controlled 65. Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. All female students are good at study. B. All poor students at high school are males. C. Girls’ physical and mental development grows earlier than boys.

D. The country’s science and technology reforms totally depend on males. 66. What can be concluded from Wen Jun’s words?

A. It’s necessary for students to enter a boys-only school.

B. Normal school education is necessary for children’s growth. C. Girls do better in memorizing and reciting English vocabulary. D. School division into boys only is good for children’s development. 67. The author develops the passage by _______.

A. giving typical examples B. listing practical solutions

C. analyzing possible reasons D. presenting different opinions
