National exams for college entrance should not be banished In an increasingly complex technologically demanding society, there has been an urgent need of talents who possess the capacity to understand, manipulate and interpret information. Colleges are the places that cultivate those capacities. The national exams are good standard which can preliminary verify the ability of the students.

It is necessary to ensure that our future workforce is prepared to accept the future challenges. To met these requirements, we need a selection mechanism that is fare and generally known to all the people, that is the National Exams. Since the first exam was administered in1977, the National Exams has been a Chinese tradition. I don't think it is right time to abandon that tradition. First of all, the National Exams tests an inpidual's knowledge of more specific subjects. Many believe that the National Exams is a more accurate assessment of a student's accumulated knowledge. Second, our society not only needs the professionals that comes from the colleges, but also other society builders. The National exam is a balance that keep our society in balance. Third, some argue that the scores are not a valid predictor of a student's future grade point average. But a student's GPA is not the sole criterion a college uses when selecting potential students. Other factors, such as classes taken, extra-curricular activities, class rank, essays, letters of recommendation

and the applicant's personality are given just as much weight as the scores.

Do we really want to revert back to the days when the most important factor determining applicants' entrance into the school of they choose was who they knew, or if they have legacy or not? Absolutely not! As far as I'm concerned, we don't need to get rid of the National Exams, our kids need to be better prepared for it.
