1.identify vt.①确认；识别；鉴别 (recognize sb/sth and be able to say who or what they are ) ~ sb/sth警方采集了指纹，对尸体做了身份确认。 The police took fingerprints and identified the body. 他的口音难以确认。

His accent is difficult to identify. ~ sb/sth as sb/sth 确认·· · ·是·· 露丝确认他就是袭击她的那个人。 Lucy identified him as her attacker.

弗雷德通过说出包里的装的东西而确认这个包是他的。 Fred identified the bag as his by telling what it contained. 那两具尸体被辨认出是两名贩毒嫌疑犯。 The bodies were identified as those of two suspected drug dealers.

~ sb/sth (as sb/sth) 显示/表明…身份 (make it possible to recognize who or what sb/sth is) 他的口音表明他是法国人。 His accent identified him as a Frenchman.

identify vt.②确定；发现(find or discover sb/sth)

~ sth ~ what/which… 科学家们发现了饮食与癌症之间的关联。 Scientists have identified a link between diet and cancer. 他们正试图弄清现行制度的弊端 They are trying to identify what is wrong with the present system. 。

2.alternative n & adj.①n.可供选择的事物, 替代物 (a thing that you can choose to do or use instead of sth else) 你可以现金支付,也可以支票支付,二者可选其一 You have the alternative of paying in cash or by cheque. 除了向警察举报他，我别无选择。 I had no alternative but to report him to the police. 有几种方案可以代替我们的计划。 There are several alternatives to our plan.

2.alternative adj.可供替代的(that can be used instead of sth else)你能想出处理这件事的其他方法吗？ Can you think of an alternative method of dealing with it? 你有没有别的办法来解决这个问题？ Do you have an alternative solution to the problem? 科学家们正在努力开发新的可替代能源 Scientists are trying to develop alternative energy sources.

3.starvation [u]n. 挨饿；饿死由于发生旱灾，明年将有数百万人遭受饥饿。 Millions will suffer from starvation next year as a result of the drought. 我们挣的工资不够维持基本生活。 We are on starvation wages. 死于饥饿 die of/from starvation 不足果腹的食物 a starvation diet (a diet in which you don’t have much to eat)

4.tentative adj.不确定的；暂定的；未作最后肯定的 (not definite or certain)我把我的初步结论递交给了警方。 passed on my tentative conclusions to I ___________________________________the police. 我们暂定下星期五见面。 made a tentative arrangement to We ____________________________________meet on Friday. 我们暂定了一个开会的日期。 fixed a tentative date We have ___________________for the meeting. 我们的假期计划依然未做最后的确定。 Our vacation plans are still tentative.

5.accuracy [u] n. 精确；准确( the state of being

6.interrupt vt&vi.① vt &vi.打断…讲话；打岔 (to say or do sth that makes sb stop what they are saying or doing) ~ sb (with sth)请你别老是插嘴好吗? Would you mind __________________________________________? not interrupting (us with questions) all the time
